Overview

As Engineering Manager, you lead a high-performing fullstack/backend team to ship web applications and services that shape the MileSplit product experience. You partner with Product and Design to drive strategic tech decisions and elevate the Product Engineering Department with inclusive, autonomous leadership. The role supports a remote-first, Austin-hub company culture and involves mentoring engineers, improving processes, and aligning engineering outcomes with business goals. You'll work on scalable, high-traffic systems and help foster a growth-oriented team culture.

Responsibilities
  • Manage 4-6 direct reports, hiring and growing a high-performance fullstack/backend team
  • Drive execution by organizing work, setting goals, and monitoring progress
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, designers, and QA on planning and designs
  • Address bottlenecks to achieve department goals
  • Stay current with industry advances to improve execution
  • Ensure quality and technical output of the team
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new engineers
  • Foster a culture of growth, inclusion, autonomy, and accountability across engineering leadership
  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions, manage on-call escalations and incident response
Key requirements
  • 4+ years hands-on software engineering (frontend and backend)
  • 2+ years of management or team leadership experience in software development
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop engineers
  • Focus on process improvements and KPIs for development effectiveness
  • Strong collaboration with product decisions
  • Understanding of high-traffic, scalable web and distributed systems
  • Proficiency in Front-End and Backend technologies
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and JSON
  • High proficiency with CI/CD processes
  • Experience with containerization (preferred)
  • Experience with large data sets (preferred)
