How FHMD Works With Teaching Artists
FHMD maintains a roster of qualified instructors and connects them with schools and community partners as opportunities arise. Teaching artists are able to tell us what they teach, which age groups they prefer, and when they are available.
We recognize that teaching artists often have several professional commitments. You may be performing, rehearsing, working another job, running your own creative business, or pursuing other projects. Our contract model allows instructors to consider individual opportunities rather than committing to a traditional full-time or part-time schedule.
Programs are available in multiple states where FHMD has qualified teaching artists. Most school-year programming takes place during Fall, Winter, and Spring, with additional opportunities during Summer camps.
Classes & Assignments
FHMD classes generally follow these guidelines:
Typical session: 6 10 weeks
Meeting schedule: Once per week
PreK class: Approximately 45 minutes
Other classes: Approximately 60 minutes
Teaching artists may be assigned an established FHMD course or may submit an original class proposal for consideration. Instructors are expected to develop instruction that is appropriate for the students participating in the program.
Joining our instructor roster does not guarantee a specific number of classes or hours. FHMD will continue seeking suitable assignments for approved instructors unless they notify us that they no longer wish to receive opportunities.
When an assignment becomes available, the teaching artist receives the class information and offer by email. A response is required within 24 hours. The instructor may accept the assignment, discuss the details with FHMD, or decline it. If the opportunity is not accepted within the response period, it may be offered to another qualified instructor.
