Lead Mechanical Engineer - Power

Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical design and evaluation for coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities, supporting front-end planning, final design, and construction administration. You will collaborate with project managers, equipment suppliers, clients, and other engineers to deliver compliant, cost-effective solutions. This position tackles complex mechanical challenges, driving improvements and ensuring project success from design through startup. You will shape equipment selections, performance analyses, and lifecycle assessments in a dynamic power-environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design projects for natural gas and coal-fired generation facilities
  • Develop front-end planning, preliminary design, and code analysis
  • Prepare bidding documents and specifications for final design
  • Oversee construction administration and review submittals
  • Interface with project managers, suppliers, clients, and other disciplines
  • Perform equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, and pump selection
  • Select and size piping, pipe materials, and fittings; plan pipe supports and routing
  • Create and review P&ID's; conduct lifecycle cost analysis and equipment condition assessment
  • Plumbing, pumping, and piping for fluids/gases; assess tank/vessel sizing
  • Identify instrumentation locations for pumps, vessels, and tanks
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced staff
  • Engage in regular client interactions and problem-solving
  • Other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • ABET-accredited BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
  • 7 years of related mechanical experience
  • EPC project experience preferred
  • PE license preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Arrow, Fathom, and SmartPlant P&ID is a plus
  • Ability to devise new approaches to solving complex problems
