Overview As Principal Thermal Systems Engineer, you own the full lifecycle of next-generation data center thermal systems, from concept to production launch and ongoing sustainment. You will collaborate with global cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into certified, manufacturable solutions that balance cost, performance, and reliability. The role focuses on shaping advanced cooling technologies for a fast-growing data center market and driving impact on product performance and profitability. Responsibilities- Plan and execute complex thermal product development projects and releases; own designs from concept through production and manage engineering changes in SAP across global factories
- Serve as primary technical interface between research/advanced development and design engineering; translate findings into actionable development plans
- Generate layout concepts and system configurations with cost, performance, and reliability balance
- Define specifications for complete thermal systems including multi-domain requirements and manufacturing constraints
- Own PDP deliverables (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans) and lead validation test programs
- Lead process improvement initiatives across thermal product development domains
- Possibly supervise a team of 2-5 engineers and technicians
- Resolve escalated production and field issues via root cause analysis and corrective action
- Secure and maintain agency approvals (UL, CE/PED, ASME, regional standards)
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent)
- Engineering calculations and documentation (MathCAD, EES, or equivalent)
- 4+ years of heat transfer analysis, thermodynamic cycle analysis, fluid mechanics, and thermal system sizing
- 4+ years of experience in the commercial HVAC industry; preferably chillers
- 4+ years experience with released thermal products or systems
