Cable Harness and Interconnect Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you design rugged, high-reliability cable harnesses and interconnects for mission-critical systems. You work with electrical, mechanical, and systems teams to ensure performance in harsh environments, from concept to delivered hardware. You will shape interconnect solutions used in defense, space, and autonomous platforms, driving reliability and manufacturability. This is a hands-on, cross-functional engineering role with a strong impact on national security programs.

Responsibilities
  • Design high-reliability cable harnesses, interconnects, and connector assemblies for ruggedized systems in harsh environments (high-g, vibration, temperature extremes)
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to define requirements and ensure cross-discipline compatibility
  • Apply MIL-STD connectors, IPC Class 2 & 3 standards and relevant industry specs
  • Perform trade studies, tolerance analyses, and material selection to optimize reliability and performance
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and manufacturing documentation
  • Work with production teams and suppliers to validate designs, support builds, and address non-conformances
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of interconnect design processes and tooling
  • Duties include concept exploration, prototyping, testing, and independent execution of design approaches
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance
  • Communicate design decisions and concerns to project leadership
Key requirements
  • 3-5 years of mechanical design experience with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and CAD/tools relevant to the discipline
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD connectors and IPC Class 2 & 3 standards
  • Ability to perform trade studies, tolerance analyses, and material selection
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and suppliers
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance (Secret desired)
