Overview

In this role you lead customs and international trade compliance for North American operations, providing strategic legal counsel on duties, tariffs, and trade regulations. You'll influence leadership on regulatory risk, audits, and cross-border matters, while mentoring internal teams and coordinating with external advisors. Your work helps optimize duty strategies and ensure compliance across the global supply chain. You will be a key partner shaping Panasonics' borderless operations and compliance culture.

Responsibilities
  • Provide customs legal and compliance advice on USMCA, tariff classification, origin determinations, rulings, post-entry corrections, and FTZ compliance
  • Monitor regulatory developments, assess impact, and communicate recommendations to leadership
  • Support customs audits, investigations, disclosures, and enforcement matters with regulators, brokers, and outside counsel
  • Advise cross-functional teams on duty optimization, tariff mitigation, FTAs, duty drawbacks, and cross-border efficiencies
  • Develop and oversee customs compliance policies, including forced labor and documentation standards
  • Coordinate trade compliance procedures with operational teams
  • Provide oversight for broader trade controls (export controls, sanctions, anti-boycott) and related regulations
  • Manage outside counsel and external resources as required
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor with active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • Eight or more years of legal experience focused on customs law
  • Experience advising multinational manufacturing, supply chain, or logistics organizations (strongly preferred)
