Overview In this role you lead a Commercial Credit team to evaluate and manage a portfolio of commercial relationships, ensuring adherence to credit policies and timely risk ratings. You collaborate with relationship managers to support business growth and provide independent credit assessments for top clients. You drive ongoing credit monitoring, risk mitigation, and robust internal controls while mentoring the team and engaging with senior management. This position offers impact through shaping credit decisions and strengthening portfolio quality at a leading bank.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor a Commercial Credit team that partners with sales through the deal lifecycle
- Provide independent credit quality assessments of large commercial clients, identifying risks and mitigants
- Evaluate ongoing credit risks via financial analysis, industry review, collateral valuation, and cash flow assessment
- Oversee underwriting quality and CCM activities to timely identify emerging risks and trigger actions
- Manage complex credit structures and provide guidance on risk ratings and covenant monitoring
- Assign client relationships, prioritize work, monitor workflow, and ensure adequate team coverage
- Engage with clients as appropriate and perform ongoing risk assessments and covenant compliance reviews
- Deliver ongoing training, maintain work logs, and prepare productivity and management reports
- Resolve policy, accounting, or credit issues and maintain knowledge of accounting pronouncements impact on credits
- Recruit, develop, and retain a talented team, manage staffing and performance, and support regulatory adherence
- Design and strengthen internal controls, escalate risk issues, and support audit and regulator requests
- Promote the bank's brand and a respectful, inclusive team culture
- Support Regional Credit Officers and Loan Committees with timely credit decisions
- Maintain credit rationale and scoring processes for risk rating and monitoring
- Interact with senior management across lines of defense
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 9 years of experience and 3 years of leadership experience, or 13 years total education/experience with 3 years leadership
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in financial modeling and risk assessment tools
- Experience with complex credit structures and syndicated loans
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects
- Familiarity with credit risk rating models and loan/portfolio management systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- MBA/Advanced Degree or CPA preferred
- Experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, and Bloomberg
