Overview In this role you will prosecute criminal cases in Berkshire County's District Court, including jury sessions, while upholding victims' rights and guiding case resolution. You'll work with a dedicated team within the District Court Prosecution unit to review police work, handle arrests and bail matters, and pursue appeals as needed. The position offers meaningful public service, opportunities to impact victims and families, and to shape prosecution strategies across courts. You will engage in complex motions, pre-trial preparation, and potential trials in a mission-driven office.

Responsibilities- Prosecute criminal cases in primary and jury sessions of District Court divisions in Berkshire County
- Review police reports and charging decisions and recommend changes as needed
- Handle arraignments, bail requests, and detention or dangerousness hearings
- Provide mandatory discovery to defendants/defense counsel
- Handle pre-trial motions and motions to suppress/dismiss with written memoranda
- Review case files, statutes, case law, and victim input to determine recommendations
- Handle mental health commitment matters impacting criminal cases
- Resolve cases by plea, bench, or jury trial
- Follow the Victim's Bill of Rights
- Handle cases in Massachusetts Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court
Key requirements- Juris Doctorate Degree from accredited law school
- Membership in Massachusetts Bar, pending application to the Mass Bar, or SJC Rule 3:03 certification
