Overview

In this role within MSK's Department of Medicine, you will lead pre-award and post-award portfolio management for assigned researchers, applying independent judgment to manage complex funding and competing priorities. You will interpret sponsor guidelines, guide proposal strategy and submission, and ensure compliance with regulations. You will oversee budgets and financial plans in collaboration with investigators, acting as a knowledge expert to resolve complex research administration issues. You will mentor junior administrators and help shape a scalable research administration model for growth and impact.

Responsibilities
  • Lead pre-award and post-award portfolio management for assigned researchers, managing complex funding and priorities
  • Interpret sponsor guidelines and funding opportunities; coordinate forms and submission progress; guide proposal strategy
  • Oversee advanced financial aspects like budgets, spending strategies, and long-term financial plans aligned with research goals
  • Serve as subject matter expert and escalation point for complex research administration issues, collaborating cross-functionally
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior research administrators, including review of budgets, submissions, and financial reports
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
Key requirements
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, policies, circulars, laws, and FAR applicable to sponsored programs
  • Research administration experience in healthcare or academic settings with complex/high-volume portfolios
  • Experience with both pre-award and post-award activities
  • Knowledge of financial operations (requisitions, reimbursements, payroll allocations, financial monitoring)
  • Mid-to-sophisticated proficiency in Microsoft Office and BI tools such as Tableau or Cognos
  • Outstanding communication and self-awareness
  • Accurate budget development and leadership of solutions
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with professional service
