Overview

In this role you will oversee day-to-day lab operations for the Endres Lab, coordinating administration, procurement, safety, and facilities to keep research moving. You will partner with lab leadership and Caltech offices to manage budgets, timelines, and compliance for a complex experiments program in quantum science. You will streamline processes, ensure timely support for group members, and drive continuous improvement in operations. This position offers the chance to shape how a cutting-edge physics team works across operations, safety, and collaboration with external partners. You will play a pivotal role in enabling world-class research in quantum computing, simulation, and metrology.

Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end lab procurement including quotes, purchasing, order tracking, receipts, and vendor coordination
  • Support financial and sponsored-research administration: monitor expenditures, grants, proposals, and subawards
  • Coordinate laboratory operations, safety, facilities maintenance, and documentation of equipment and infrastructure
  • Oversee onboarding, training, access, and documentation for new group members and visitors
  • Organize group meetings, visits, and external coordination with collaborators and Caltech offices
  • Maintain organized records for procedures, safety, procurement, and research outputs related documentation
Key requirements
  • Bachelor degree in science, engineering, business administration, operations management, or related field
  • At least five years supporting an experimental research laboratory or similarly complex environment
  • Experience with procurement, vendor communication, order tracking, inventory management, and financial documentation
  • Strong organizational, project-management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, judgment, discretion, integrity, and reliable follow-through
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets), and ability to learn new systems
