Controller

In this Controller role, you will lead financial operations for a construction organization in San Marcos, ensuring accuracy and strong internal controls. You will provide timely, GAAP-based financial insight to ownership and manage construction-specific reporting, including WIP and job costing. You will oversee accounting and administrative staff, support compliance, and partner with external advisers to maintain financial health. This hands-on leadership position offers visibility with leadership and an opportunity to shape financial processes in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. • Oversee full-cycle accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll, HR-related accounting, GL, reconciliations)
• Prepare monthly/quarterly/year-end financial statements and WIP reporting, job costing, project financials, ownership analysis
• Manage construction-specific compliance (certified payroll, prevailing wage, contractor registrations, insurance, bonding, escrow)
• Coordinate year-end close, tax prep, audits, insurance renewals, banking matters, LOC renewals, and LC for captive insurance
• Supervise accounting and administrative staff while maintaining strong internal controls and GAAP compliance
• Prepare and file tax returns (Heavy Vehicle, Business Property, Sales Tax)

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Construction accounting experience required
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement prep
• Hands-on WIP reporting and job costing experience
• Knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements
• Strong Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word skills
• Experience with CPAs, banks, bonding companies, and insurance providers
• Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
