Overview In this role you will support a busy Arlington team handling sophisticated land use and zoning matters for commercial real estate clients. You will work closely with municipal staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders across Northern Virginia to advance rezonings, special use permits, and comprehensive plan changes. You will draft persuasive filings and advise clients on entitlements and regulatory pathways. The position offers growth at a well-established firm with strong client and community engagement.

Responsibilities- Manage land use and zoning applications from initial analysis through governmental review and approval
- Prepare and process rezonings, special use permits, comprehensive plan amendments, and conditional zoning matters
- Research and analyze zoning ordinances, plans, and regulations relevant to entitlement processes
- Draft applications, memoranda, presentations, and supporting materials
- Represent clients before planning commissions, governing bodies, and other agencies
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, planners, and consultants during entitlement
- Maintain accurate matter records and meet filing deadlines
- Advise clients on land use strategy and regulatory compliance
- Attend evening public hearings and meetings with stakeholders
Key requirements- Active Virginia State Bar membership in good standing
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Experience handling zoning and land use matters (rezonings, SUPs, plan amendments, conditional zoning)
- Ability to work with city, town, and county officials across multiple jurisdictions
- Excellent legal writing, research, analysis, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and time-management abilities
