Tax Senior Manager - Compensation & Benefits - Retirement Plans

Overview

In this role you help clients and internal teams navigate retirement plan issues, focusing on qualified plans, 401(k) plans, IRAs, and ESOPs. You will translate regulatory changes into practical guidance, support compliance, and contribute to plan design and operations. You'll train colleagues, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help clients achieve strategic objectives while managing complex technical concerns. This is a client-facing, growth-oriented role at a firm that values collaboration and professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Research and advise on qualified retirement plans, IRAs, ESOPs, and related employee benefits
  • Review guidance, memoranda, and client communications on retirement plan developments
  • Monitor regulatory, IRS, and legislative changes with Washington National Tax professionals and communicate implications
  • Contribute to internal/external communications about retirement plan developments
  • Train firm professionals on technical retirement plan issues, including qualification, compliance, corrections, and fiduciary considerations
  • Support clients with plan design, compliance reviews, and transaction-related retirement plan matters
  • Collaborate with related groups on issues intersecting with retirement plans, such as executive compensation and payroll tax
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Active CPA in state of residence or primary office, or active Enrolled Agent license, or active Attorney license
  • Minimum eight years of client-facing experience with leadership of others
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to meet client service, quality, and deadlines
  • Clear, professional communication with clients and firm personnel
  • Effective project management for multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel and work onsite as required
  • Proactive and growth-oriented mindset
