Overview In this role you will perform entry to senior-level prosecutorial work within the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office. You will apply legal judgment to prepare and present cases, under guidance from senior lawyers when applicable. The position supports cross functional collaboration with law enforcement and involves ongoing professional development. Responsibilities- Review investigative reports and screen prosecutions for factual validity
- Meet with law enforcement, complainants, victims, and witnesses as needed for screening decisions
- Prepare screening worksheets, informations, declinations, warrants, or subpoenas
- Prepare or direct search warrants and subpoenas within search and seizure law
- Review case files and coordinate with officers and witnesses for trial readiness
- Assess case strengths/weaknesses and negotiate plea agreements within policy
- Prepare cases for court appearances and train witnesses for testimony
- Appear in court to present evidence and arguments
- Maintain up to date knowledge of trial procedures and evidence rules
- Prepare judgments, orders, and conclusions of law; review for appeal and file appeals when needed
- Provide training to law enforcement and the public within professional conduct guidelines
- Comply with agency policies on leave and other procedures
Key requirements- Utah State Bar membership in good standing or eligibility to join on first day
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- 0-8 years (Grade 18) or 3-8 years (Grade 19) or 8+ years (Grade 20) of full time legal practice
- Background check clearance required (and ongoing every 2 years)
