General Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patients experiencing acute or chronic pain, review medical history and perform physical exams to diagnose pain sources.

  • Ability to assess complex cases and make informed decisions on appropriate interventions.
  • Proficiency in performing interventional pain procedures.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving issues related to pain management treatment plans.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex medical information to patients.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new work environments and different medical teams.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Residency training program in anesthesiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, or a related field accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Fellowship training in pain management, focusing on advanced pain management techniques and interventional procedures.

License & Certifications:

  • Board certification in pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) or the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in West Virginia.

Experience:

  • While specific requirements may vary, most locum pain management physician positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience providing care in a clinical setting.
