Join Our Team - Make an Impact in Your Community

Medical Biller / Office Administrator

Full-Time In-Person Nonprofit Mental Health Organization

Kohan International Foundation is seeking a dedicated, organized, and compassionate Medical Biller / Office Administrator to join our team.

We are a nonprofit behavioral health organization committed to providing mental health services to underserved individuals, families, children, and communities that have historically had limited access to quality care.

We are not simply looking for someone to fill an administrative position. We are looking for a long-term team member who believes in our mission and understands that the work performed in this role directly impacts the people we serve.

Every insurance verification completed, claim followed up on, phone call answered, and patient assisted can help remove a barrier to care. The person in this position plays an important role in helping people access treatment, remain connected to services, and find support and hope when they need it most.

Who We Are Looking For

We want someone who is passionate about serving underserved communities and excited to be part of a mission-driven organization.

The ideal candidate is a team player who understands that administrative and billing work is an essential part of patient care. You will often be one of the first points of contact for individuals seeking mental health services, so compassion, patience, professionalism, and a genuine desire to help others are extremely important.

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with our organization long-term, take ownership of their responsibilities, and contribute to the positive impact we are making in our community.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday
8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Full-Time, In-Person

Comprehensive training will be provided.

Key Requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills are essential.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Compassionate and professional communication skills.

  • Dependable, responsible, and willing to take initiative.

  • Comfortable working directly with patients, therapists, insurance companies, and administrative staff.

  • Ability to protect confidential patient information at all times.

  • Tagalog/Filipino language skills are highly preferred, but not required, and would be especially valuable in helping us serve our diverse community.

ResponsibilitiesMedical Billing
  • Submit insurance claims electronically and accurately in a timely manner.

  • Monitor outstanding claims and follow up on unpaid, delayed, or denied claims.

  • Review and audit billing information for accuracy.

  • Draft and submit insurance appeals and supporting documentation when claims are denied or underpaid.

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, deductibles, copays, and coverage.

  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, eligibility, authorizations, and payment issues.

  • Maintain accurate and organized billing records and documentation.

  • Respond professionally and promptly to patient and insurance inquiries.

  • Protect confidential patient and billing information in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.

Office Administration & Patient Support
  • Answer incoming calls and assist patients professionally and compassionately.

  • Assist new patients with the intake process.

  • Coordinate patient scheduling and appointment-related matters.

  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits before services are provided.

  • Assist patients in navigating administrative requirements that may otherwise become barriers to receiving care.

  • Scan, organize, maintain, and file patient documentation accurately.

  • Communicate and coordinate with therapists and administrative staff.

  • Help ensure patients are connected to the appropriate services and receive timely administrative support.

Preferred Experience

The following experience is helpful but not required:

  • Medical or behavioral health billing experience.

  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding.

  • Experience with EHR/practice-management systems.

  • Experience with Office Ally or similar billing platforms.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Google Workspace, and Google Sheets.

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare, mental health, nonprofit, or community-service environment.

Qualifications
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to problem-solve and follow through on tasks.

  • Professional and compassionate communication style.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.

  • At least one professional reference.

Compensation

Starting pay: $20.00 per hour

There is potential for a compensation review and rate increase after 120 days, based on performance, reliability, and demonstrated ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

You are someone who is:

  • Passionate about helping underserved communities.

  • Compassionate toward people experiencing mental health, financial, cultural, or access-to-care challenges.

  • Organized, dependable, adaptable, and detail-oriented.

  • Friendly and outgoing while maintaining professionalism and appropriate boundaries.

  • A strong listener and problem-solver.

  • Comfortable taking responsibility and following through.

  • A collaborative team player who wants the entire organization to succeed.

  • Motivated by meaningful work-not simply completing tasks.

  • Interested in building a long-term career and growing with our organization.

Why This Position Matters

This role has a direct connection to the people we serve.

When billing is handled correctly, patients are better able to maintain access to treatment. When eligibility is verified accurately, families can better understand their coverage. When someone calls our office looking for help, the way that call is handled can influence whether they successfully connect with care.

Your work helps create access. Your follow-through helps people remain connected to treatment. Your compassion can help someone feel supported during a difficult time.

We need someone who recognizes the importance of that responsibility and is genuinely excited to contribute to our mission.

About Kohan International Foundation

Our mission includes serving underserved and diverse populations, including individuals and families who may have historically experienced limited access to mental health care and community resources.

We believe quality mental health care should be accessible to the communities that need it most. Our team works together to reduce barriers, connect people with appropriate care, and provide support that can help individuals and families develop hope, stability, and a path forward.

If you are looking for more than simply a job-and want to use your skills to help people access essential mental health services-we encourage you to apply and become part of our team.
