Overview As a Principal Electric Engineer you lead complex electrical projects for distribution, generation, and storage systems, acting as an SME for LVD Design. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to maintain standards and drive improvements. The role emphasizes governance, technical leadership, and representing Consumers Energy at industry groups. You will shape engineering workflows and deliver reliable, safe, and efficient energy solutions.

Responsibilities- Own and maintain standard work documents and technical governance across the organization
- Lead design, specification, and implementation of electrical systems and components
- Coordinate with clients, other departments, and external partners to track project progress and budgets
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and contract documents; support cost estimation and budgeting
- Provide engineering support and guidance across projects; ensure compliance with codes and customer requirements
- Oversee installation activities and resolution of project issues in a timely manner
- Represent the company at industry conferences/working groups (e.g., EPRI) and drive continuous process improvements
- Perform CAD/engineering software tasks and develop designs for electrical instruments, facilities, and systems
- Prepare topographical drawings and other documentation to establish standards and specifications
- Other duties as assigned
Key requirements- ABET-accredited engineering degree with 7+ years in advanced electrical engineering OR non-ABET degree plus PE license with 7+ years
- Knowledge of electrical utility distribution planning, operation, and maintenance
- Proficient in design and calculation software
- Strong written and verbal communication; highly organized and detail-oriented
