Overview In this full-time role, you support pediatric ophthalmology care across Nemours sites, enabling accurate eye assessments and efficient clinic flow. You work under physicians and optometrists to deliver age-appropriate, family-centered care, handling histories, testing, and triage. The position offers growth within a specialty clinic and requires travel to multiple Jacksonville locations. You help maintain safety, confidentiality, and high-quality eye care. This is a mission-driven opportunity to support children's vision health.
Responsibilities- Document chief complaints and medical/ocular histories; perform visual acuity testing and basic ophthalmic exams
- Complete preliminary tests and procedures (tonometry, pupillary evaluation, stereo acuity, extraocular muscle assessment)
- Independently perform advanced diagnostics (automated visual field testing, OCT, Fundus Photography, Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, IOL Master)
- Conduct lensometry, auto-refractometry, and phoropter-based acuity testing
- Triage patient calls, manage forms and prescription refills with physician authorization
- Assist with exam room preparation, instrument cleaning, and equipment maintenance
- Knowledge of ocular pharmacology and safe handling of instruments; assist with contact lens fitting and patient instruction
- Maintain patient confidentiality and a safe environment; participate in additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Key requirements- High School Diploma
- BLS Certification (AHA) within 90 days of start date
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred
