Overview Vous will serve as Johnson Controls' global technical authority for joining and surface finishing, owning standards, roadmaps, and best practices across regions. This hands-on role lives on the plant floor, driving problem solving and measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost. You will bridge plant operations, product engineering, and suppliers to ensure manufacturability and durability from day one. Lead rapid experiments, scale successful solutions enterprise-wide, and shape the engineering culture through hands-on Gemba leadership.

Responsibilities- Define and govern global standards, specs, and procedures for robotic/ automated welding, brazing, leak proof joint validation, and protective coatings
- Own and refresh the multi year technology roadmap; pilot and adopt emerging joining and finishing technologies
- Codify and deploy best practices across the global plant network to close performance gaps and drive common playbooks
- Act as primary technical liaison between product engineering and manufacturing; qualify and audit global suppliers and coating/finishing lines
- Build technical capability through training, certification, and hands on mentoring; lead root cause investigations
- Spend the majority of time on the plant floor (Gemba), leading high priority problem solving with urgency and accountability
- Establish escalation processes for complex joint quality, leak, and coating/corrosion issues and scale successful solutions
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering (preferred) or related technical field
- 12+ years in welding, brazing, or joining engineering within complex manufacturing with hands on process development
- Deep experience across multiple welding/joining processes and leak proof joint validation
- Knowledge of protective coating/finishing (e-coat, powder coat) and outdoor corrosion protection
- Proven track record setting technical standards across multiple sites or globally
- Experience partnering with product engineering to influence design for manufacturability and durability
- Experience qualifying and managing global supplier bases for welding/brazing equipment and coating lines
- Willingness to travel internationally (30-50%), with majority on the plant floor
