Senior Associate Engineer - Mechanical

Overview

Join McKinstry to help deliver high-performance, lifecycle-focused mechanical designs for data centers and complex buildings. You will lead cross-functional engineering efforts within the Engineering and Design division, shaping designs that operate efficiently over a building's lifetime. This role blends innovative problem solving with practical, cost-conscious implementation in a DBOM environment. You'll contribute to climate-positive projects that improve energy performance and client profitability, while collaborating with partners to drive sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to delivery of data center projects and client engagements
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on design solutions
  • Lead engineering teams to meet schedule, scope, and budget
  • Track project performance on a monthly basis
  • Participate in all project phases from planning to execution
  • Prepare proposals aligned with client needs and budgets
  • Build long-term relationships with customers to support project success
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience, preferably in complex commercial or energy infrastructure projects
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license; NCEES multi-state license preferred
  • Experience leading multi-discipline engineering efforts on complex projects
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central plants, energy conservation measures, and mechanical design
  • Experience with Revit (5+ years preferred); familiarity with CAD/BIM platforms a plus
  • Experience with energy modeling software (IES VE, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Elite CHVAC or similar) preferred
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, VBA, Python, InDesign or similar engineering tools a plus
  • Onsite construction experience valued
  • LEED/WELL or other sustainability accreditation preferred
  • Collaborative mindset
