Overview In this role you advise and represent the university on a broad range of legal matters within the higher education sector. You work within ASU's Office of General Counsel, focusing on complex transactional matters, regulatory compliance, and policy development. You will partner with senior administration and external counsel to manage risk and support university objectives. The work blends strategic negotiation, risk assessment, and timely legal guidance to enable responsible growth and operations. Responsibilities- Drafts, negotiates, and reviews complex university agreements and legal documents
- Provides legal counsel and opinions based on federal/state law, ABOR policies, and university policies
- Advises on regulatory compliance for business transactions and university operations
- Represents ASU in negotiations, administrative proceedings, and legal disputes
- Researches laws, regulations, and legislative history; analyzes implications for the university
- Collaborates with outside counsel on specialized matters as needed
- Represents the OGC at meetings and conferences and maintains regulatory relationships
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Key requirements- Juris Doctor degree and six years of practicing attorney experience in higher education, complex transactions, or public finance
- Experience in a high-volume, complex legal environment
- Ability to structure, negotiate, and draft complex agreements for a large public research university
