Overview In this role you will own proposals and cost estimates for electronic security installations, spanning access control, CCTV, and intrusion systems. You will work closely with sales and project management to translate designs into buildable, priced solutions for a Dallas-area market. The role offers visibility and impact, with opportunities to grow from technical work into a strategic estimating position within a longstanding, employee-focused firm. You will collaborate across teams to ensure realistic scopes and pricing that align with project realities and client needs.
Responsibilities- Build detailed cost estimates and proposals for security projects (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection)
- Interpret construction drawings, specs, and scope documents to translate design intent into priced solutions
- Attend job walks with sales and clients to scope projects firsthand
- Mark up drawings and takeoffs using CAD, Revit, and Bluebeam to prepare bid packages
- Collaborate with project managers and field technicians to reflect install/program capability in estimates
- Price and scope work from small single-building jobs to campus-wide upgrades
- Support proposal development for K-12, higher education, and healthcare facilities
- Maintain organized documentation and professional communication throughout bid/proposal cycles
Key requirements- Background as a security systems technician, lead technician, or field PM moving into estimating
- Hands-on installation/programming experience with access control, CCTV/VMS, and intrusion systems
- End-to-end understanding of security systems (readers, door contacts, panels, VMS)
- Ability to read/mark up construction drawings and specs
- Practical experience with CAD, Revit, and Bluebeam
- Solid Excel and Word skills plus professional communication
- Willingness to obtain/hold Texas private security license for campus work
- Office-based with local travel for job walks
