Overview

As an MEP Estimator, you will deliver detailed cost estimates for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in healthcare, life sciences, and medical facilities. You will support pre-bid strategy, value engineering, and post-award pricing to keep projects on budget and on schedule. Working with design teams and subcontractors, you will develop cost models, takeoffs, and bid proposals that reflect regulatory and clinical requirements. This role offers impact through shaping bids for complex healthcare environments and collaborating across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare comprehensive estimates and bid proposals for MEP scopes in healthcare, life sciences, and medical projects
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specs, and BIM/Revit models using standard tools
  • Review documents to identify scope gaps, constructability issues, and healthcare-specific code compliance
  • Solicit, evaluate, and manage subcontractor/vendor quotations and maintain supplier relationships
  • Develop cost models, productivity rates, material costs, and contingency analyses
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and coordination to refine estimates
  • Suggest value engineering solutions and alternates to meet budgets while meeting regulatory needs
  • Prepare estimate summaries, bid comparisons, and presentations for leadership and clients
  • Maintain historical cost databases and estimating templates to improve accuracy
  • Support post-award activities including change order pricing and reconciliation of as-builts
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive MEP estimating experience
  • Healthcare, life sciences, lab, or medical facility project experience
  • Experience with quantity takeoff and estimating software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, Hard Dollar)
  • Proficiency in Excel modeling and BIM/Revit quantity extraction a plus
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and installation labor rates
  • Familiarity with NFPA, ASHRAE, FGI Guidelines, ASHE and infection control considerations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to coordinate with teams and clients
  • Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
