Overview In this role you will lead the Bureau of Water Assessment and Management to advance NY's water quality goals. You will guide research strategy, oversight of monitoring and standards development, and coordination with multiple partners to translate science into policy. Expect to address HABs, saline waterbody reclassification, and nutrient criteria while ensuring timely, high quality outputs. This is a mission driven, cross functional leadership position with significant impact on public health and the environment.

Responsibilities- Direct and supervise the Bureau to align with division work plans and policy guidance
- Manage research activities including HABs, nutrient criteria, saline waterbody reclassification, and contaminants of emerging concern
- Oversee statewide water quality monitoring and ensure data informs management decisions
- Lead development and implementation of water quality standards and guidance values
- Oversee budgeting, grants, and coordination with federal partners
- Coordinate public involvement, outreach, and representation with regional and interstate entities
- Oversee collaboration with USGS Water Sciences Center Laboratory and manage related contracts
- Ensure reporting of research results to peers and the public and maintain transparency of water quality status
- Direct strategic planning for research plans, performance metrics, and accountability
- Manage fiscal resources and grant procurement to address high-priority water quality issues
- Direct communications and coordination to ensure staff and regions are informed and engaged
Key requirements- Master in a field relevant to water pollution control with six years of professional research experience in Environmental, Public Health, or Natural Sciences
- A Ph.D. may substitute for one year of experience
- Valid driver's license or ability to meet transportation needs
