Overview In this hybrid Professional Liability Attorney role, you handle sophisticated professional liability matters (legal malpractice and medical malpractice) alongside related commercial litigation. You will manage complex dockets, develop defense strategies, and counsel clients across teams to support outcomes from intake to resolution or trial. You supervise associates and staff, coordinate with claims and insurers, and contribute to business development and client service. This position offers courtroom-focused practice within a collaborative firm environment and provides opportunities to shape strategic defense initiatives.

Responsibilities- Manage a diverse caseload of professional liability matters, including legal malpractice and medical malpractice and related commercial litigation
- Develop case strategy, draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and prepare witness and expert testimony
- Handle all phases of litigation including intake, discovery, motions, hearings, settlement, mediation, and trial preparation/participation
- Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive briefs, motion practice, and trial exhibits
- Coordinate and manage expert witnesses, medical/technical consultants, and vendors; evaluate expert reports and prepare depositions
- Counsel and maintain close client relationships; provide case updates, risk assessments, and settlement recommendations
- Supervise and mentor associates, paralegals, and support staff; delegate tasks and review work product
- Work with claims teams and insurance carriers on coverage, indemnity, and defense cost matters
- Participate in business development activities, including client development and proposal drafting
- Ensure accurate timekeeping, billing, and compliance with ethics rules
Key requirements- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active admission to the state bar where practice is required
- 5+ years of litigation experience focused on professional liability; strong preference for legal malpractice and medical malpractice experience
- Proven commercial litigation experience including motion practice, discovery management, and trial experience or substantial trial preparation
- Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills under deadline pressure
- Experience managing experts, including selection, preparation and cross-examination of expert witnesses
- Strong client counseling skills with risk assessment and settlement strategy delivery
- Proven ability to manage a high-volume, complex caseload and to mentor junior attorneys and staff
- Comfortable in a hybrid environment with occasional travel to court, client sites, and mediations/hearings
