Medical Malpractice Attorney

Overview

In this role you support the firm's Healthcare Law practice by managing a medical malpractice caseload, handling all phases from intake to resolution, and leading trial preparation. You'll work closely with experts, clients, and senior counsel to deliver strong advocacy and strategic litigation. The position offers meaningful, collaborative work and opportunities to mentor juniors while advancing the firm's healthcare-focused litigation practice. Responsibilities
  • Manage a docket of medical malpractice cases from intake to resolution
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and settlement documents
  • Conduct legal research and analyze medical records; coordinate with expert witnesses
  • Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses; develop trial strategy
  • Handle court appearances, hearings, and motion practice; argue motions as appropriate
  • Lead trial preparation; serve as lead or co-counsel at trial (jury selection, openings/closings, witness examinations)
  • Negotiate settlements and mediations with opposing counsel, insurers, and clients
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and staff; coordinate with litigation support
  • Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and comply with professional conduct and firm policies
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to the state bar in good standing
  • 3+ years of litigation experience with primary focus on medical malpractice and Healthcare Law
  • Trial experience including leading or co-counseling trials and depositions
  • Ability to analyze complex medical records and work with medical expert witnesses
  • Strong written and oral advocacy, legal research, and courtroom presence
  • Experience with case management systems, e-discovery tools, and litigation technology
  • Excellent client-facing skills; ability to counsel, manage expectations, and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage heavy caseloads, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines; willingness to travel as needed
