Overview

In this role, you join Hinshaw & Culbertson's Professional Liability practice in San Francisco to handle sophisticated malpractice matters and advise clients on risk management. You work with leading trial lawyers to drive outcomes across all litigation phases, from investigations to appeals. The role blends strong advocacy with collaboration across a national platform, offering growth through mentoring, training, and cross-office opportunities. Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in professional malpractice litigation, handling claims against attorneys and law firms
  • Conduct thorough investigations and case evaluations, reviewing documents, files, and evidence
  • Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other legal documents
  • Negotiate settlements and ADR with opposing counsel
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals
  • Provide legal advice on malpractice claims and risk management
  • Collaborate with experts to analyze claims and develop case strategies
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of professional malpractice law, court rules, and procedures
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and legal staff
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and communicate case developments
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the California State Bar in good standing
  • 3+ years of experience in professional malpractice litigation or related areas
  • Proven track record handling professional malpractice cases, including trial experience
  • Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
  • High level of professionalism, ethics, and client service orientation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team
