Overview

As Associate Counsel, you will handle a caseload of lower-complexity litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal. You will develop litigation skills under senior lawyers, advise insured clients and claim partners, and cultivate strong internal and external relationships. You'll employ effective research, writing, and negotiation to deliver sound results and support Travelers' renowned client service. This role blends hands-on case work with mentorship, technology-enabled processes, and a focus on collaboration. You'll join a national legal organization that values professional growth and local client impact.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of lower-complexity matters from inception to resolution
  • conduct legal research and produce persuasive writing and presentations
  • draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery under supervision
  • attend court events, depositions, and related appointments
  • provide case analysis and strategic recommendations to insured clients and claim partners
  • build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients and partners
  • utilize case management systems and automation effectively
  • travel as required to meet business needs
  • perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • 1-3 years of litigation experience
  • persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills
  • proficiency with legal research tools & technology
  • ability to foster collaborative relationships and deliver excellent client service
  • strong communication, urgency, and responsiveness
  • sound decision making and negotiation skills
  • flexible and agile mindset to adapt to evolving needs
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree and active license in state(s) of practice
