Overview

In this role you will develop accurate, competitive cost estimates for automation and I&C projects across energy, nuclear, oil & gas, mining, and related sectors. You will partner with engineering, project management, and procurement to gather data, analyze costs, and prepare proposals. You'll use your technical I&C knowledge to drive cost control and support continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role with a clear impact on project viability and client satisfaction, within a values-driven, safety-focused firm.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for automation and I&C projects (materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors)
  • Produce class 1-5 estimates from concept to control estimates
  • Review specs, drawings, and documents to ensure correct scope interpretation
  • Provide estimating support to engineering through full project lifecycle
  • Collaborate with teams to validate technical requirements and identify cost drivers
  • Develop and maintain estimating tools, databases, and historical cost records
  • Analyze vendor/subcontractor quotations for compliance and competitiveness
  • Identify risks and opportunities and communicate recommendations to leadership
  • Support bid preparation and proposal development aligned with commercial strategies
  • Participate in project reviews and suggest cost control measures
  • Assist project controls and MOC/quantity tracking
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and PMO governance
Key requirements
  • 7-10 years of estimating or cost engineering for automation and I&C in industrial settings
  • Strong understanding of automation systems, instrumentation, and control technologies
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and standards
  • Proficiency in Cleopatra Enterprise (cost estimating software)
  • Experience with estimating tools and MS Excel
  • Familiarity with Lump Sum, Fixed Price, Target Price, Reimbursable contracts
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously and rely on own technical judgment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Experience in Energy & Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Renewables, Mining (asset)
