Overview In this role you will lead a machining department to support engine and aftermarket parts shipments. You will manage a 10-20 direct-labor team, overseeing a range of parts from simple to highly complex, with tight tolerances. You'll drive safety, production scheduling, and lean improvements to meet schedules and financial goals. You will partner with cross-functional teams to resolve shop-floor issues and develop a culture of continuous improvement. This position offers hands-on leadership in a unionized, manufacturing environment with growth opportunities through Lean and process optimization.
Responsibilities- Plan, direct and supervise 10-20 direct labor employees in machining and processing a wide variety of cast/fabricated parts
- Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies, investigating incidents, and implementing corrective actions
- Plan and execute production schedules to meet OE and aftermarket demand and financial targets
- Drive productivity improvements through lean initiatives and standard work
- Coach and assess training and performance; manage department expenses and budgeting
Key requirements- Associate or Bachelor in engineering or manufacturing preferred; HS diploma/GED required
- 5+ years in an industrial/marine environment with a proven track record
- Strong communication, project management and organizational skills
- Self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision and delivering results
- Proficiency with Word and Excel; ERP experience preferred; Oracle a plus
- Lean training strongly desired; standard work creation for machine set-up and maintenance preferred
- Understanding of manual and/or CNC machining; ability to operate lathes/mills preferred
