Overview

In this role you will oversee the employee equity program and its accounting, ensuring accurate expense recognition, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting. You will collaborate with senior leadership to maintain the cap table and vesting schedules, translating complex equity data into clear financials. This position sits at the intersection of finance, compliance, and people operations, enabling scalable ownership as the company grows. You will work closely with the CEO, CFO, and VP Accounting to shape scalable equity processes and controls, with the added benefit of remote work and significant visibility.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee employee equity ownership programs and related documentation
  • Record stock compensation expense and perform fair value calculations
  • Manage cap table reconciliations and vesting schedules
  • Prepare quarterly expense reports, tax reporting (1099s, W-2 adjustments), and SEC compliance reports (if applicable)
  • Maintain grant databases, perform month-end/quarter-end journal entries, and reconcile to the general ledger
  • Generate equity rollforwards and track forfeitures/expired options for reversals
  • Support auditors with equity-related schedules and ensure liability for deferred compensation is accurate
  • Engage in back-office accounting to reflect stock-based compensation costs and tax liabilities
Key requirements
  • Experience with equity compensation accounting and related financial reporting
  • Knowledge of tax reporting for equity plans (1099s, W-2 adjustments)
  • Cap table management and vesting schedule tracking
  • GAAP-compliant journal entries and general ledger reconciliation
  • Understanding of SEC reporting requirements if the company is public
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
