Overview

In Raleigh, a respected Southeastern firm seeks an experienced Litigation Associate or Counsel to defend professionals and businesses in complex civil matters. You will handle substantial responsibility and gain courtroom experience, working with an accomplished trial team. The role centers on professional negligence, commercial liability, transportation defense, and product liability, with meaningful client interaction. This is a growth oriented position with mentoring, professional development, and cross functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Defend clients in professional negligence, commercial liability, transportation defense, and related civil matters
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategies from inception to resolution
  • Manage all phases of discovery, including document review and written discovery
  • Take and defend fact and expert witness depositions
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents
  • Handle court appearances, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Collaborate with partners and clients on practical, cost-effective strategies
  • Assist with trial preparation and participate in active trial schedules
  • Provide ongoing client counseling regarding risk management and litigation exposure
Key requirements
  • JD from a top-tier law school with excellent academics
  • Active Bar Admission in the relevant jurisdiction in good standing
  • 3+ years of substantive civil litigation experience in a sophisticated firm
  • Experience handling litigation in state and federal courts
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Experience managing discovery, motion practice, and case development
  • Ability to independently conduct depositions, including expert depositions
  • Experience handling court appearances, hearings, mediations, and client conferences
  • Trial preparation experience; jury trial experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management
  • Strong organizational abilities and ability to manage multiple matters
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
