Overview As an Associate Attorney in mass tort and civil defense, you will manage diverse caseloads, draft pleadings and motions, conduct legal research, and support senior litigators to achieve favorable outcomes. You will collaborate with a distributed team, coordinate discovery and trial preparation, and handle filings in federal and state courts. Responsibilities- Handle a diverse caseload of mass tort and civil defense matters, including intake, investigation, and strategy development
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, briefs, settlement documents, and other court filings in federal and state courts
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda and trial materials on complex mass tort issues
- Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials; coordinate witness prep and exhibits
- Collaborate with senior attorneys, paralegals, and experts to analyze liability and damages and develop defense strategies
- Manage case deadlines and calendars using case management and e-discovery platforms; ensure rule compliance
- Communicate with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel; provide updates and strategic recommendations
- Assist with settlements and trial readiness, including witness lists, exhibits, and trial binders
Key requirements- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active admission to practice law in the applicable state(s)
- 3+ years of litigation experience, with preference for mass torts, product liability, or civil defense
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery; courtroom exposure (depositions/hearings/trials) preferred
- Strong legal research and writing skills with ability to synthesize complex facts and laws
- Proficiency with case management and e-discovery tools; comfort with remote collaboration tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a distributed team
