Locum Tenens General Surgeon Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in general surgery
- Physician licensure eligible for practice in Mississippi
- Board certification or board certification eligibility in General Surgery
- Current BLS certification
- Current ATLS certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in adult general surgery and trauma care
- Experience with laparoscopic procedures, including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, and Nissen fundoplication
General Surgeon Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat adult surgical patients in an on-site hospital setting
- Provide locum tenens coverage for approximately five patient encounters per shift
- Perform general surgical and trauma evaluations and procedures
- Perform laparoscopic appendectomies, cholecystectomies, hernioplasties, and Nissen fundoplications as clinically appropriate
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and the broader care team
- Document assessments, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care accurately
- Deliver timely, compassionate, and evidence-based surgical care throughout the coverage period
