The Controls Engineer owns the instrumentation, electrical and controls side of the skids and modules builds for data center, power generation and energy customers. That covers gas conditioning, fuel, water treatment, chemical dosing, cooling water and pumping systems. The role makes sure every skid's instruments, panels and control logic are designed, integrated and proven at Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) before it ships.


Key responsibilities

  • Review customer specs and P develop instrument lists, I/O lists, cause-and-effect matrices and control narratives for each skid.
  • Select and specify instruments and electrical components: transmitters, flow meters, analyzers, control valves, VFDs, PLCs and panel hardware.
  • Design skid control panels and wiring: schematics, panel layouts, junction boxes, cable schedules and terminations (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN), to UL 508A and NEC.
  • Program and configure skid PLCs and HMIs (for example Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens) for pumps, dosing, filtration, pressure regulation and heat exchanger controls.
  • Coordinate with customers' and EPCs' controls teams on BMS, DCS or SCADA interfaces (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, BACnet) and hazardous-area requirements.
  • Guide shop electricians and technicians through instrument installation, wiring and point-to-point checks.
  • Write and run FAT procedures: I/O checkout, loop checks, simulated sequences and alarms, often with the customer witnessing.
  • Produce turnover documents: as-built drawings, program backups, instrument data sheets and calibration records.
  • Standardize control designs across repeat skid programs to cut engineering time and errors.
  • On rare occasions, support startup of a delivered skid at a customer site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years in industrial controls and instrumentation, ideally on skids, process packages or OEM equipment.
  • Strong PLC and HMI programming skills and experience with VFDs and motor controls.
  • Able to read P&IDs and create electrical and instrumentation drawings.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical) and control valves.
  • Experience planning and running FATs.
  • Familiarity with hazardous-area classification (Class I Div 2) a plus, for gas and fuel skids.
  • This is an on-site role based at our Jacksonville shop.
