Overview

In this role you drive profitable growth through strategic book management in the PUO, applying underwriting expertise and data-driven analysis to shape product, appetite, and pricing. You'll collaborate across underwriting, product, and technology to implement enhancements and ensure underwriting intent is reflected in systems. You'll engage with agents, reinsurers, and industry partners to identify opportunities and improvements that balance risk with value. This is a fast-paced, collaborative role at a Fortune 100 company that prioritizes customer-centric solutions and regulatory aligned processes.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and optimize assigned lines of business and segments; deliver portfolio changes for profitability
  • Ensure rate strategy implementation for assigned LOB/segment
  • Use data tools and external resources to identify trends and recommend profitability improvements
  • Collaborate with underwriting, product, and technology to implement product enhancements
  • Collaborate with product on new forms and standalone offerings
  • Provide recommendations for portfolio audits based on trends
  • Participate in claims roundtables and agency visits to identify trends and opportunities
  • Assist/manage Alternative Distribution book as needed
  • Support development and execution of marketing, training, and seminars for underwriting teams
  • Support reinsurance placement decisions and maintain reinsurer relationships
  • Market Nationwide products and support agency strategies for pipeline and producer development
  • Engage in program research, form/rate development, and technical assistance as needed
  • Proactively develop technical and business knowledge through internal/external channels
  • Travel to agency offices for audits, training, or marketing visits as required
  • Report to Department Manager
Key requirements
  • Six years related experience or five years as an underwriter, E&S preferred
  • Commercial E&S P&C underwriting knowledge
  • Ability to analyze trends and impact on book performance
  • Understanding of underwriting operations and systems
  • Familiarity with ISO and industry resources
  • Data analysis skills to identify profitability impacts
  • Project management and multi-task prioritization under tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and ability to explain complex concepts
  • Ability to work with limited direction and handle ambiguity
