Overview In this role, you will provide US and international tax input to bp's Upstream and Downstream activities, collaborating with cross-functional teams across Finance, Legal, and Tax. You will help manage planning, compliance, audits, and policy matters, including complex restructurings, cross-border investments, and operating model changes. You'll translate tax considerations into practical business solutions while building playbooks, issue logs, and knowledge sharing. This is a high-impact advisory position at bp's Tax Americas team, shaping tax positions and filing strategy in a global energy context.

Responsibilities- Provide timely tax input on investments, commercial arrangements, operating model changes, supply chains, and major business initiatives.
- Support US federal and international tax analyses, including subparts F, GILTI/NICTI, credits, and withholding where applicable.
- Coordinate with Treasury, Transfer Pricing, Legal, and regional teams to ensure tax-efficient funding structures and accurate tax reporting.
- Advise on Upstream activities (exploration, development, production, joint ventures) and Downstream activities (refining, terminals, pipelines, retail, logistics).
- Support tax audit and controversy workstreams: research, position papers, document requests, and authority engagements.
- Review tax-related contractual language across JV, financing, and intercompany documents for senior review.
- Monitor tax policy developments and prepare summaries for senior colleagues and business teams.
- Develop and maintain tax playbooks, precedent libraries, and knowledge resources to improve consistency and readiness.
Key requirements- 5-8 years of relevant tax experience; energy sector exposure preferred
- Graduate degree or equivalent; CPA, attorney, or chartered accountant preferred
- Solid knowledge of US federal income tax and international tax concepts
- Ability to research, develop, and defend positions with senior guidance
- Strong analytical, modelling, and commercial input translation skills
- Experience with tax accounting, credits/incentives, and transactions in cross-border contexts
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills; ability to explain tax concepts to non-tax colleagues
- Ability to work independently on multiple workstreams and manage priorities
- Proficiency with AI-enabled data tools and Power BI; MS Office suite
