Overview As a Senior Commercial Underwriter, you will evaluate and structure C&I lease and loan transactions within the equipment finance space. You balance sound credit decisions with growth opportunities, working closely with teammates to assess risks and structure transactions. You will prepare concise credit recommendations, monitor borrower performance, and apply risk rating models to ensure proper risk assessment. This role offers opportunities to influence loan structures, collaborate across teams, and support relationship expansion. You will contribute to a disciplined credit culture while engaging with cross-functional partners to serve customers reliably.
Responsibilities- Analyze business, industry, financial data and supporting credit information for applicant requests
- Identify key risks affecting repayment prospects
- Derive conclusions to support credit recommendations based on facts and judgment
- Prepare timely credit recommendations with appropriate risk ratings and policy adherence
- Monitor borrower financial performance per loan documents
- Spread financial statements per Company Guidelines
- Collaborate with team to issue borrower notifications and obtain approvals for violations
- Offer insights into customer financial needs using approved relationship tools
- Provide opinions on loan structure effectiveness to mitigate risks as appropriate
- Co-play a role in customer calls and team training or development with manager approval
Key requirements- Bachelor
- 7-10 years of commercial credit underwriting experience in a lease and loan environment
- Experience underwriting commercial lease transactions in equipment finance typically exceeding $5 million
- Advanced credit and credit quality skills including accounting, financial statement spreading, and cash flow analysis
- Advanced knowledge of credit policies, procedures, practices and documentation
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Demonstrated time management skills with ability to juggle multiple tasks
- Ability to train and present to audiences or willingness to learn to train and present
- Ability to work across the company to manage internal and external relationships
- Knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and related regulations
