Overview In this role you drive profitable growth for Hanover's Middle Market portfolio by underwriting and selling new and renewing accounts. You will partner with agents and cross-functional teams, applying advanced analytics and industry knowledge to align with appetite and mix goals. You handle high complexity cases within a broad authority and guide portfolio decisions to balance risk and return. This role offers the impact of shaping the Tennessee territory through strategic underwriting, pricing insight, and strong agent relationships.
Responsibilities- Apply advanced underwriting concepts (risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, coverage implications, loss analysis) using tools like RQI, WC RST, UWWS, and CLAY to follow guidelines
- Manage portfolio to meet GWP, profitability, retention, mix, and growth targets across lines of business
- Analyze market factors, trends, and data to identify new business opportunities with agents while maintaining profitability
- Document files per guidelines and state regulations, and clearly explain account decisions
- Support profit-improvement initiatives with key agents and implement territory business plans
- Identify and develop opportunities through sole or shared territory plans and sales presentations to agents and customers
- Collaborate with Industry Solutions, Claims, Risk Solutions, and Operations to demonstrate service and technical capability to win business
- Maintain knowledge of state/territory issues and regulatory trends influencing pricing and risk decisions
- Profile agency plants and strategically market capabilities to drive enhanced sell opportunities
Key requirements- Bachelor or equivalent experience
- 3-7+ years underwriting MM accounts, with at least 3 years in MM underwriting
- 3+ years of experience building profitable agency relationships leading to new and renewal business
