Overview

As an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist you will lead comprehensive pharmaceutical care and collaborate with antimicrobial stewardship teams to optimize therapy and improve patient outcomes. You will precept students and residents while advancing education and research in a teaching-centered, academic hospital. You'll drive antimicrobial stewardship activities, participate in quality and safety initiatives, and support clinical decision-making with pharmacokinetic expertise. This role sits at the crossroads of patient care, education, and institutional improvement in Baystate Health.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care and operational support across care areas, including antimicrobial de-escalation, therapy optimization, and adverse event monitoring
  • Maintain and grow Antimicrobial Stewardship, Blood Culture Surveillance, and OPAT programs with prospective audit and feedback
  • Offer pharmacokinetic consultations and collaborate with microbiology to inform therapy; help develop antibiograms
  • Mentor and precept APPE students and pharmacy residents; develop staff education for prescribers and nurses
  • Lead evidence-based drug therapies, implement clinical guidelines, and conduct drug use evaluations; coordinate Pharmacy and Therapeutics activities
  • Engage in pharmacy-research projects and mentorship of residency projects; contribute to teaching to internal and external audiences
  • Complete professional requirements to obtain relevant Board certification within 12 months of hire
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and participate in emergency responses as needed
Key requirements
  • PGY-1 or equivalent to two years in direct patient care
  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BPS)
  • Licensed Pharmacist
  • Doctorate in Pharmacy
  • Must obtain BPS certification within 12 months of hire
