Overview

In this role you will build and operate backend C#/.NET microservices powering TEGNA's content management and streaming platforms. You'll work within a collaborative, cross-domain team to turn epics into reliable services, with support from senior engineers and the cloud team. The role emphasizes cloud-native, event-driven development in Azure/AWS environments. You'll contribute to scalable, high-availability media delivery while evolving alongside a forward-looking engineering organization.

Responsibilities
  • Build, test, and maintain C#/.NET microservices (primarily as Azure Function Apps) for content management and streaming support.
  • Implement event-driven workflows using Azure Service Bus and other messaging patterns.
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs; contribute to containerized, cloud-agnostic services on Kubernetes.
  • Translate stories/epics into working implementations; participate in design reviews, code reviews, and testing.
  • Operate services in production: monitor, troubleshoot, and address performance/reliability issues.
  • Work cloud-native across Azure/AWS with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices set by the cloud team and Cloud Architect.
  • Collaborate in an Agile/Scrum team with disciplined source control (branching, PRs, code review).
Key requirements
  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services
  • Proficiency in C#/.NET; experience with serverless/Azure Functions is a plus
  • Understanding of RESTful API design and basic distributed-systems concepts
  • Exposure to messaging or event-driven patterns (Service Bus, queues, pub/sub) is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native development (Azure and/or AWS)
  • Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum team with Git-based source control
  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform; habit of writing tests is a plus
  • Media, streaming, or high-traffic platform experience is a plus
