Senior Environmental Scientist

Overview

In this role you will lead and manage complex environmental permitting and NEPA assessment work within the Mid-Atlantic region. You will collaborate with leadership to plan staffing and budgets, mentor junior staff, and ensure quality delivery on transportation, land development, and utility projects. You'll coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and multifaceted teams to advance environmental compliance and project success. Responsibilities
  • Execute and lead complex environmental permitting processes and NEPA assessments with clients and regulators
  • Develop project staffing plans and budgets in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Mentor mid-level and junior staff, review work for accuracy, and support career development
  • Supervise staff to ensure timely completion of assignments and prioritize tasks
  • Assist team with fieldwork, technical reports, agency coordination, and quality control
  • Prepare and oversee proposals, contribute to proposal writing, and engage with pursuit teams
  • Lead proposal preparation, contract review, and manage project activities focusing on quality, scope, budget, and schedule
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of applicable experience including project management
  • Bachelor in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or related field
  • Environmental certifications preferred (PWD, PWS, VSWD, ISA Arborist)
  • Design/Build experience preferred
  • Proficiency with ArcMap/GIS, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred
  • Knowledge of VA and MD environmental regulations and permitting, NEPA background preferred
  • Experience leading collaborations with scientists, engineers, and subconsultants for large projects
  • Experience coordinating project activities with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
