Process Engineer Powder Metallurgy

Overview

In this role you will help design and build a new metal, alloy, and magnet-making facility, focusing on powder processing operations. You will coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements and ensure safe, high-quality production. The position offers hands-on work with a broad set of processes, from powder production to final assembly, in a mission-driven, safety-conscious environment. You will contribute to process development, training, and technology transfer in a greenfield facility that supports the company's U.S. manufacturing transformation.

Responsibilities
  • Support powder processing operations to meet customer specifications
  • Collaborate with procurement, vendors, maintenance, operators on equipment design, reviews, and commissioning
  • Contribute to EHS risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and regulatory compliance
  • Plan and assist with process development for hydrogen decrepitation, jet milling, dry grinding and powder blending
  • Coordinate with NPI team for new process deployment at industrial scale
  • Provide technical training on process knowledge to production teams
  • Define process control plans by evaluating customer requirements with broader manufacturing teams
  • Monitor key operating parameters to optimize yield, quality, and minimize EHS impacts
  • Supervise quality control procedures to ensure stable powder processing operations
  • Investigate and resolve equipment and quality issues in HD furnace, Jet Milling, and subprocesses with QA and customer service
  • Document and support IP and patent filing activities
  • Other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • BS degree in Metallurgy/Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
  • 3-5 years' experience in metal powder processing with industrial scale processes and equipment
  • Solid understanding of powder metallurgy for part manufacturing and powder quality fundamentals (PSD, flowability, agglomeration)
  • Experience gathering and tracking process control information (SPC)
  • Strong problem-solving skills (FMEA, 8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
