Overview As a Conflicts Staff Attorney at Cooley, you support risk management and compliance by managing conflicts of interest and ethics screens across the firm. You work closely with Associate Directors of Conflicts to ensure adherence to Rules of Professional Conduct and to update firm policy as needed. You analyze new business and personnel changes for conflicts, draft waivers and engagement provisions, and assist with client engagement terms. Responsibilities- Maintain knowledge of ABA Model Rules and jurisdictional differences across offices
- Monitor changes to ABA and jurisdictional rules and propose policy updates
- Analyze and resolve conflicts of interest for new business and hires
- Coordinate with Managers, Directors, and analysts to gather information for conflict determinations
- Draft and review ethical screens, conflict waivers, and risk management engagement provisions
- Assist with client engagement terms program including review and coding of outside counsel guidelines
- Conduct research on conflicts of interest issues and corporate affiliations
Key requirements- 3+ years of conflicts resolution experience or 5+ years as a practicing attorney
- JD degree
- Active member in good standing or registered in-house counsel in jurisdictions relevant to work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, iManage and firm applications
- Ability to travel and work extended/weekend hours
