Overview As Senior Substation Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of high voltage substation projects (13kV-765kV) from concept to completion. You will drive design packages, calculations, and specifications, ensuring compliance with IEEE, NESC, and client needs while coordinating between design, field, and project teams. You'll manage schedules, budgets, and QA/QC, and foster client relationships to secure successful outcomes. This role offers impact in shaping robust, code-compliant substations within a collaborative, engineering driven environment.
Responsibilities- Lead substation projects from concept through completion
- Develop substation design packages (arrangement, protective relaying, grounding, lighting, security)
- Prepare design calculations (insulation, DC systems, voltage drop, cable sizing)
- Create design sketches, estimates, BOMs, equipment specs
- Apply IEEE, NESC standards and industry guidelines
- Conduct field inspections on public/private utility systems
- Lead complex assignments with advanced tools to improve processes or methods
- Manage project schedule and budget for deliverables
- Coordinate with project team to meet client requirements and QA/QC guidelines
- Prepare proposals including schedule and budget estimates
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements- 7 years of substation project or related experience
- ABET-accredited degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or Electrical Engineering Technology/Mechanical Engineering Technology with FE exam)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with MS Office or equivalent
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
