Overview

As Director, TPA Claims you own the strategy and execution for Hippo's Claims TPA function, accountable for in-house claims handling for our external MGA partners. You will build the claims organization from the ground up, define the operating model for new external customers, and participate in executive planning for the platform's commercial strategy. This role blends claims leadership with product and governance to scale a rapidly growing business line. You will lead cross-functional efforts to improve technology, processes, and outcomes, shaping the claims experience for partners and customers.

Responsibilities
  • Own claims performance reporting (loss ratios, cycle time, litigation rate, customer satisfaction) and manage the annual operating plan and forecast for the Claims TPA line
  • Direct the claims technology roadmap for the TPA offering, ensuring claims voice in platform product decisions
  • Own the service-level framework and intake with client success for new business onboarding
  • Represent Claims TPA in enterprise governance, standard-setting, and escalation
  • Build and lead the Claims TPA organization: hire, train, and develop adjusters; establish supervisory layers
  • Set caseload standards, workflows, and quality benchmarks for in-house claims handling distinct from traditional TPA models
  • Own licensing compliance and claims handling practices across jurisdictions with enterprise Operations
  • Own QA, file audits, reserving accuracy, and oversight of litigation strategy, defense counsel, and budgets
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of general liability claims experience with deep GL knowledge
  • 10+ years of claims handling experience with 5+ years leading a team
  • Experience managing litigated claims and budgets, including working with defense counsel
  • Active adjuster license(s) or ability to obtain multi-state licenses
  • Experience in an MGA, program business, or Insurtech environment preferred
  • Experience building and scaling a high-performance team
