Overview

As a Structural Engineer with Barry-Wehmiller Design Group, you will contribute to capital projects by delivering robust structural designs and calculations. You'll work within the Architecture/Engineering Process Practice, collaborating with leaders and specialists to solve complex problems for world-class clients. You'll drive design accuracy, mentor junior engineers, and support field activities from conception through delivery. Responsibilities
  • Prepare design and construction documents for new and upgraded structures as part of an integrated A/E team
  • Assist owner or project manager in defining facility requirements for advanced technologies projects
  • Oversee work of structural engineers and designers
  • Analyze and design concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures with seismic emphasis
  • Produce structural calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and other deliverables
  • Assess existing structures and propose strengthening for new loads
  • Develop sketches into working details and drawings per codes
  • Ensure timely deliverables and exceed client expectations
  • Guide team performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Conduct field work including as-builts, retrofits, and client interaction
  • Assist training and mentoring of junior engineers and designers
  • Recommend corrective design changes
  • Analyze configurations of basic project structural components
  • Engage day-to-day to strengthen client and team relationships
Key requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience
  • Experience in seismic design and analysis of structures
  • Proficiency with ETABS, RISA, RAM, STAAD, SAP, Mathcad, ENERCALC
  • AutoCAD and REVIT (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and seismic requirements
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and varied heights
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication for reports and presentations
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer license (required)
  • Structural Engineering license (preferred)
  • Master of Science in Structural Engineering highly preferred
