Overview

As Associate Designer, Design Engineering, you will develop 3D models and technical drawings for air compressors, releasing parts into the PLM system and supporting multiple engineers. You'll contribute to robust, safe designs with attention to maintenance and manufacturability while collaborating across disciplines. This role sits in Hitachi's global air power team, enabling scalable, reliable solutions. You'll grow through mentoring and cross-functional teamwork in a sustainability minded environment.

Responsibilities
  • Create 3D CAD models of complex compressor sub-systems
  • Model new vendor parts as needed
  • Support multiple engineers and projects concurrently
  • Design components and test equipment with maintenance, safety, and robustness in mind
  • Prepare engineering records (ERs) to release parts, assemblies, BOMs and drawings
  • Provide status updates to management
  • Develop and revise drawings, BOMs, and specifications
  • Contribute to standard processes for mechanical systems
  • Create BOMs using SAP Engineering Control Center (PLM)
  • Assist in training junior members
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to meet corporate goals
  • Apply CFD and FEA analysis to models
  • Provide technical support to sales, warranty, and service teams
  • Perform engineering analysis on components and sub-systems
Key requirements
  • AS Degree minimum
  • Strong 3D parametric modeling skills (mechanical design, routing, castings, machining)
  • Experience with ECTR or other PLM software
  • Ability to create complex assemblies using constraints
  • Understanding of P&ID
  • Proficiency in Unigraphics NX 12
  • Team player and self-starter
  • Willingness to improve processes through continuous improvement
  • Understanding of NX and PLM attribute-driven models
  • Understanding of drafting standards
  • GD&T experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • 1-4 years' engineering/manufacturing experience
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (JD Edwards or SAP)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter and professional
  • Able to multi-task and manage several projects
  • 3D parametric modeling
  • NX (Unigraphics NX 12)
  • PLM systems (ECTR or similar)
