Overview In this role you lead HIAS-wide safety and security strategy and operations to protect staff and participants. You advise executive leadership, strengthen executive protection, and drive a culture of risk awareness across HQ and global offices. You provide hands-on security support, assessments, and action planning, coordinating with internal and external partners. You will guide policy development, crisis management readiness, and incident response while maintaining wellbeing and duty of care as a core focus. This position offers strategic influence, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to shape safety practices in a global humanitarian context.
Responsibilities- Lead global safety and security practices, mentoring HQ and country office staff
- Represent HIAS as a sector expert in internal and external forums
- Provide ongoing safety and security metrics and incident trend updates to leadership
- Advise Crisis Management Team and ensure readiness of policies and processes for activation
- Deliver in-person and virtual security advice, assessments, and action planning for HIAS offices worldwide
- Collaborate to embed duty of care, safety risk culture, and security into program design and governance
- Coordinate with People Operations and stakeholders on staff safety and security matters
- Support program design and grant proposals with safety and security considerations
- Develop and maintain security standards and policies grounded in best practice
- Build and sustain a global community of practice in safety and security
Key requirements- Undergraduate degree (or extensive relevant experience)
- Significant leadership experience in security management in a complex global humanitarian or related setting ( 3 years)
- Experience managing security in country offices and complex environments
- Executive protection knowledge
- Strong interpersonal skills and empathy
- Understanding of cyber, online, and physical security intersections
- Ability to build trusted internal and external relationships
- Proactive stakeholder management and sound judgment
- Hands-on and strategic advisory capabilities to senior leadership
- Formal security qualifications or training
- Experience leading global safety and security in culturally diverse settings
- Risk assessment, incident reporting, and incident analysis experience
- Ability to balance safety with program priorities
- Knowledge of humanitarian principles and code of conduct
- Training and coaching capability for staff
