Overview In this role you lead estimating and preconstruction for self-perform drywall, framing, and carpentry work. You'll analyze plans, prepare detailed cost estimates, and report KPIs to shape project decisions. You collaborate across internal and external partners, manage risk, and drive cost-saving opportunities. You will represent McCarthy in the industry and stay current with estimating techniques to support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities- Prepare accurate quantity surveys for self-perform work
- Independently assemble self-perform cost estimate packages from plans and specs
- Attend preconstruction meetings and discuss scope during estimate reviews
- Submit pre-bid RFIs for scope clarifications
- Prepare variance reports and identify cost deltas
- Identify cost-savings opportunities and prepare turnover packages for self-perform teams
- Be the subject matter expert for drywall, framing, and carpentry scopes
- Manage material pricing, volatility, and procurement strategies
- Review milestone documents to price value-alternative opportunities
- Co-develop post-bid budgets/SOV; assist in field change pricing
- Coordinate and provide information to internal/external partners and vendors
- Prepare contractual exhibits and build relationships with subs/suppliers
- Represent McCarthy at industry events
- Stay current with estimating technology and techniques
- Implement Safety Programs and EEO/Affirmative Action Programs
Key requirements- 7+ years of drywall/framing preconstruction and estimating experience in large commercial, education, and/or healthcare markets
- General knowledge of construction principles, codes, and processes
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes
- Extensive experience with OST and Quickbid software
- Strong math and analytical skills
